Three deployment models for the same ERP. The choice depends on your need for standardisation, your level of customisation and how you want to manage upgrades.
S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Multi-tenant SaaS run by SAP, standard processes based on best practices, two major updates a year. GROW with SAP or RISE with SAP contract, for a Greenfield approach and processes with few specifics.
S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition
Dedicated cloud environment, full functional scope and custom developments possible, upgrades at your own pace. The core of the RISE with SAP offering, suited to Brownfield conversions from ECC.
S/4HANA On-Premise
Installed in your data centre or with the hosting provider of your choice: full control and maximum customisation, but infrastructure, backups and updates remain your responsibility.
SAP ECC end of maintenance: the timeline
The dates set by SAP leave little room for large scopes: the question is no longer whether to migrate, but when.
31 December 2027
End of standard maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0.
End of 2030
End of extended maintenance, available as an option at additional cost.
2031 to 2033
SAP ERP, private edition, transition option, reserved for large customers with complex landscapes, for systems moved to private edition before the end of 2030.

Public or private cloud?
Public Edition is a standardised SaaS, automatically updated twice a year: it suits processes close to the standard. Private Edition, at the heart of RISE with SAP, keeps the full scope and your custom developments, with upgrades at your own pace. We decide based on your actual processes.
Brownfield, Greenfield or Bluefield?
Brownfield converts your existing ECC system, history and developments included. Greenfield starts from a new installation and only carries over the useful data. Bluefield migrates selectively, by entity or by process. The choice depends on technical debt, the volume of custom code and the end-2027 deadline for standard ECC maintenance.
How long does a migration take?
From six months for a simple scope on Public Edition to more than eighteen months for a multi-country conversion. The main factors are data quality, the volume of custom developments and the number of interfaces. A four to eight week scoping phase, supported by process mining, makes this plan reliable.
What is RISE with SAP?
It is the SAP contract that bundles, in a single subscription, S/4HANA Cloud in Private or Public Edition, the infrastructure and its technical operations, as well as transformation tools such as SAP Signavio. For Public Edition only, SAP also offers GROW with SAP, designed for new implementations.
